Sydney played host to a 3 day design event run by the Indesign Publishing group, newly rebranded as Sydney InDesign. Across the city 35 interior design related showrooms hosted a series of in-store events, with precincts accessed by a private bus network.
This year saw the launch of Galleria, a collective of some 30 brands co-exhibiting in the former train workshops at Technology Park, with installations showcased in a wall-less trade fair style installation, the initiative proving a huge hit with visitors.
The newly refurbished Corporate Culture / Cult showroom, undoubtedly the best design network in Australia, and home to many vanguard brands - among them Cassina, Cappellini, Fritz Hansen, and the new addition Dedon outdoor furniture – presented in branded showcases creating a ‘shop within shop’ environment.
The refreshed interior spaces, spread over two levels, features walls decorated in shades of grey from interior stylist Mr Jason Grant’s collections for Murobond paints, the result proving relaxed, sophisticated, presenting a layered presentation of some of the best contemporary design brands available, whilst embracing the industrial bones of the Chippendale building.
Proving quality design does not always carry a hefty price tag, Cult featured Danish design brand Hay, Italian plastic maestros Magis, and launched BOOO Eco Bulbs from the The Netherlands – a new brand unveiled at Milan design week last April.
Among the imported collections is a new collaboration between Adam Goodrum and Corporate Culture with the Australian designed & made sofa and armchairs ‘Aran’ (ABOVE), that joined Henry Wilson‘s A joints; Assembly Shelving by Lightly (Cindy Lee) – shelves ingeniously secured with a leather belt like strapping system; a clever table by New Zealander Nathan Goldsworthy (BELOW); Tim Webber’s pendant lighting and stools; and Melbourne-based designer Adam Cornish‘s pottery pendant lamps that launched earlier this year at designEX.
